The N-BASE Database is a unique source of information about the UK civil nuclear industry and a wide number of related topics. With 10,000 records dating back 10 years the database is an invaluable reference tool for anyone interested in the nuclear industry – journalists, students, researchers, academic institutions, local and central governments, environmental authorities and organisations and those involved in the industry itself.
You are strongly advised to read and save or print out the Help Page before going to the Search Page
The N-Base Database focuses on the UK civil nuclear industry, particlarly the reprocessing industry at Sellafield and Dounreay; plutonium production; decommisioning; waste production, management and storage; radioactive discharges into the sea and air; the transportation of nuclear fuel, waste and other radioactive material; health, and numerous other related issues. The database also includes references to non-nuclear topics where there is a link to our main subjects. For example, records on Gulf War Syndrome started because of the use of depleted uranium in shells and records on the health effects of electro-magnetic fields and mobile phones because of possible links to cancers.
Each record contains: Name of publication; date of publication; keywords, headline of article or title of publication; and a summary (usually the first paragraph).
The following publications are checked for the N-Base Database: Aberdeen Press and Journal, Scotsman, Glasgow Herald, Sunday Mail, Scotland on Sunday, Sunday Times, Independent on Sunday, Observer, Financial Times, Guardian, Independent, Daily Telegraph, New Scientist, Whitehaven News, John O’Groat Journal, Caithness Courier, and publications from the European Commission, International Atomic Energy Agency, UK Government and regulatory authorities etc.
